Great Smoky Mountains Bike Week June 16th - 21st Minimize

Event Alert!

The premier of The Great Smoky Mountains Bike Week - Cancelled

As you probably know, The Great Smoky Mountain Bike Week was cancelled a second time. We were not made aware of this until the last minute. At Smoky Mountain Connection we do our best to make sure all events and information is up to date but unfortunately sometimes things change without notification and we do not have time to respond.

Our staff at Smoky Mountain Connection is trying to find out more information as to why the event was cancelled and if it will be rescheduled. Please check back often for updates on this event and other information about the Eat Drink Go Experience in the Smoky Mountains.

I was very excited about this event for a number of reasons but the foremost reason is the Smoky Mountains is such a beautiful place to ride with sweeping curves and gorgeous views and so many people...  (Read More)

’09 Riding Season Has Officially Started - Daytona Bike Week Minimize

Daytona Bike Week 2009

Daytona Bike Week

It has finally arrived!!!

I had the good fortune to attend Daytona Bike Week '09. The weather was perfect for the official start to the 2009 riding season.

Luckily avid motorcyclists haven’t gotten word there is a recession. The streets were filled with people from everywhere at one of the biggest motorcycle events in the U.S.  We saw all types of motorcycles and all types of people riding them. No one really cares who you are or what type of ride you have, all that matters is that you share the experience and the road.

While in Daytona we visited a lot of the vendors who were there to showcase equipment for your bike and accessories to make your ride more comfortable and safe. One of the things that caught our eye is the Nolan helmet with the Bluetooth built in the helmet. That is at the top of my wish list.

One of our rides took us by the ocean on A1A. That is one of my favorite things to do when visiting Daytona. There is nothing better than being on that bike with the ocean waves crashing on the shore as you ride along chasing the setting sun.

Ride safe and ride often.

Wearable Ride Diary! Show off where you've been.
Our SmokyMountainConnection.com T-shirt is now available through the web site! Listed on the back are the roads all bikers aim to conquer...let others know which road you've vanquished by marking it off on the back as you go. We've gotten emails from riders who say they are planning on
marking the date of their ride on a particular road, crossing the road off, making their shirt into a wearable rider's diary. Good idea! Got other ways to use your shirt? We'd like to know about it.

Motorcycle & Mountain Trivia Minimize

The very first Harley-Davidson was created by three brothers and their friend. What are their names?

1903 was the first year for H-D, what year was the first V-twin introduced?

The Iron Butt Rally is held in the US every two years and starts at different points each time it runs. How many miles does a biker have to travel and in how many days?

Tennessee was at first part of North Carolina, and then was known briefly as the State of Franklin. It later became part of the "U.S. Territory South of the River Ohio," and finally was admitted to the Union as the State of Tennessee--the 16th state--on June 1, 1796, and ranks 17th in population compared to other states.

There are two official flowers for the state of Tennessee, the Iris and the Passion Flower. While there are several different colors among the iris, and the act naming the iris as the state flower did not name a particular color, by common acceptance the purple iris is considered the state flower.
The Great Smoky Mountain National Park is the most visited park in our country. Over 9 million mountain adventurers come from all over the USA and the world to experience the beauty of the Smokys.

Good site, just wish that it was posted that Pigeon Forge Rallies had been cancelled BOTH weeks. It would help those who have to ask off work.
