Travel Tales Minimize

Tuesday was a great day for an adventure down a road we hadn't traveled before. The weather was a perfect North Carolina spring day; just a hint of chill in the air, plenty of trees beginning to leaf out, and not too many vehicles on the road....

Welcome to Smoky Mountain Connection! Minimize

The fall colors in the Smoky Mountains are some of the most beautiful mixture of colors you will ever see. You can expect to see these marvelous colors beginning mid-September at elevations of 4500 to 6000 feet when the yellow birch, American beech, and the mountain maple begin to turn.

During the first two weeks of October the leaves are at their peak colors above 4000 feet. The remaining weeks of October present the Smoky Mountains’ very best color. The sugar maple, scarlet oak, sweet gum, red maple and dogwood explode with color.

So, to sum it up, you can begin to see some color starting mid-September but the most vibrant colors can be seen from mid to the end of October. If you are looking for places to visit or things to see while checking out the breath taking colors of the Smoky Mountains, please visit other sections of our website.

Wearable Ride Diary! Show off where you've been.
Our SmokyMountainConnection.com T-shirt is now available through the web site! Listed on the back are the roads all bikers aim to conquer...let others know which road you've vanquished by marking it off on the back as you go. We've gotten emails from riders who say they are planning on
marking the date of their ride on a particular road, crossing the road off, making their shirt into a wearable rider's diary. Good idea! Got other ways to use your shirt? We'd like to know about it.

Tennessee was at first part of North Carolina, and then was known briefly as the State of Franklin. It later became part of the "U.S. Territory South of the River Ohio," and finally was admitted to the Union as the State of Tennessee--the 16th state--on June 1, 1796, and ranks 17th in population compared to other states.

There are two official flowers for the state of Tennessee, the Iris and the Passion Flower. While there are several different colors among the iris, and the act naming the iris as the state flower did not name a particular color, by common acceptance the purple iris is considered the state flower.
